After a birth: organise notifications and family documents

A child brings new documents and contacts. This guide helps you organise them: official registration, discussions with your employer and insurers, and your own family records are separate tasks.

Sign-in required. Selecting this does not send a notification.

Clarify official registration

Ask the birth institution or competent civil register office about the process and required details and documents. For a birth abroad, contact the relevant Swiss representation. Use the official information linked below.

Collect contacts and questions

Make your own list: health insurer, employer and any other relevant organisations. Check the registrations, evidence and deadlines applicable to your circumstances directly with them. Filing records in Connect PD does not complete these registrations.

Organise family documents

File birth records, insurance documents and important correspondence. Decide who needs which documents and who may handle a request. Share records selectively and check the features available in the family area.

Connect PD

How Connect PD helps

The family and documents areas of Connect PD can help you file and assign records. If your own contact or address details also change, prepare a separate request for the available recipients.

Sign-in required. Selecting this does not send a notification.

Birth and family

Frequently asked questions

Does a family profile count as official birth registration?

No. Official registration goes through the competent organisations. A family profile supports organisation within Connect PD.

Which documents should I prepare?

List those actually requested by the civil register office, insurer or employer. Keep confirmed documents separate from outstanding requirements.

Who receives my child’s documents?

Filing a document does not share it with everyone. Choose the authorised recipient and necessary record deliberately, and check the delivery channel.

Can I notify any company through Connect PD?

Check the portal for support for your chosen recipient and request. A directory entry does not prove a partnership or automatic processing. If no suitable channel is available, contact the company directly.

What does it cost?

Connect PD is free for private individuals. Any third-party charges, such as official documents or postal services, are separate and should be checked with the relevant provider.

When is my request complete?

Preparing or sending a notification does not mean the recipient has made the change. Check replies, outstanding evidence and the company’s confirmation. If no reply arrives, follow up directly.
