Changing your name in Switzerland: who should you notify?
A new name affects more than your identity document. Customer accounts, contracts and correspondence should match too. This guide covers notifying companies of a name that has already been clarified officially.
After marriage or divorce
Clarify your official name with the civil register office. Marriage or divorce does not always mean your name changes. Connect PD does not apply for an official name change.
Where should you update your name?
Review banks, insurers, health insurance, your employer, telecom providers, landlord, subscriptions and memberships. Authorities, identity documents and driving licences have their own procedures, separate from private customer accounts.
Match your previous and new names clearly
Have your previous name, new official name, customer number and, where relevant, effective date ready. Ask whether a certificate, ID copy or additional confirmation is required. Send only the documents needed.
Prepare your request
- Clarify the official name and appropriate evidence.
- List affected customer accounts and contracts.
- Select the details and documents each recipient requires.
- Check confirmations and the spelling on new documents.
How Connect PD helps
Connect PD’s name change workflow helps you prepare the update, add required evidence and notify selected companies. Check available recipients and requirements before each submission.
Notifying a company does not change the civil register or automatically update official identity documents. Recipients may require their own identity checks.
Frequently asked questions
Can I legally change my name through Connect PD?
No. An official declaration or application belongs with the competent authority. Connect PD supports subsequent notifications to companies.
What else should I review after a separation?
Your address, bank details, correspondence address and joint contracts may be affected. Clarify contract ownership and representation separately; a data update does not transfer a contract.
